COSTCO!
You know what this place is. This glorious, wonderful place where you can buy literally anything, as long as its in a 12 pack… 12 boxes of fruit snacks, 12 televisions, 12 diamond rings… you get the idea.
I’ve decided to share this wonderful picture with you in order to discuss the two sides of Costo.
1. Customers, or “members” as us employees are supposed to refer to them:
Members are the lifeblood of Costco, or so I’m told. Yes, I know they’re important. BUT, as an employee they irk me. Costco members are a special breed. They are those that make at least $60,000 a year… and feel entitled to squander their earnings as they see fit.
(edit: I fall into this category, and by that, I mean my dad makes all the money while I act as parasite to host)
For example: The picture above is quite an accurate depiction of what goes on in Costco every day.
On my shift, I watched a woman literally pick up EVERY towel that was stocked, and methodically place each one on a flat bed. She unloaded at least fifty of these goddamned things…
I watched in horror. It pained me to watch her. I wanted to gouge my eyes out.
Folks that shop at Costco, I mean no offense by this comment, but, you all do not put enough faith in the establishment’s employees! Let us help you… Let us make it easier for you.
We don’t want to deal with your mess later…
Had this woman said, “Ma’am, I need a shit ton of towels, I have to do god knows what with them, can you help me?”
I would have said, “Why yes of course, valued member, let me go get you a pallet of your own.” And I would have proceeded to bring her out enough towels to create an entire animal kingdom of folded origami towels (which is what I’m convinced she needed them for).
AND her goddamn towels wouldn’t have gotten dirty laying on that flat bed, because we all know what kind of nasty shit gets on those things. They’re dragged around an entire warehouse, trash gets taken out on them, they stay out in the rain…
Anyway… I was going to add the employees’ side of things separately but I feel my short story has successfully conveyed the emotions that pretty much all employees feel towards those members that need a ridiculous amount of things…. even for Costco.
***Disclaimer: this post does not in any way reflect the view of the company itself. I say this because I still have a job there… and I’d like to keep it that way since I’m making $11.50/hr… big money for a college kid.
