I attend school at Northern Arizona University In Flagstaff, Arizona. Curiously, the abbreviation “NAU” not only stands for the name of the university, but is also a clever acronym.
NOT A UNIVERSITY as it is lovingly referred to by my fellow students. NAU is not really an institution of higher learning in my opinion. NAU… is a glorified high school, but instead of the acne ridden and jerk-off jocks, you have your Star Wars nerds (with which I identify) and your fraternity meat heads. I was informed recently that NAU has delved even further into lowering its standards, as last year this ‘university’ lowered its admission standards IMMENSELY.
Now, I don’t discriminate, I love people from all walks of the IQ rating, but, really NAU? You literally let ANYONE that applied to your school become enrolled.
I use this information as background information so you’ll understand my story of the levels of (un)intelligence I am exposed to every day.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I can’t stand people that feel the need to show off their vocabulary…
Museum Studies class, the professor asks us “does anyone know the meaning of connoisseurship?”
Me: “Someone that knows their shit on a certain subject, they’re like fuckin C3P0 with their compendium of knowledge on the language of Ewokese on the forest moon of Endor”
Professor: “yes very good”
(this is where Ms. Vocabulary comes in)
Jagoff: “So… thats like an ‘aficionado’ right?”
really? REALLY? I feel like you knew the meaning of the word. you just felt the need to shit on everyone else by showing your “massive” vocabulary skills…
Well, thats too bad. because it back fired on you, jagoff.
It is my humble opinion that in school, if you’re smart, you just keep your mouth shut and silently laugh in awe of those lesser beings around you. Generally, I can do that… to some people.
DISCLAIMER: I am fully aware I’m not the sharpest either
So, some ADVICE:
If you feel the need to demonstrate your intelligence, you should check yourself before you wreck yourself with your less than impressive vocabulary.
(Seriously, everyone knows what an aficionado is, and they honestly don’t give a fuck that you know it too.)
